Resumo:
This dissertation, titled "Social Work and Pluralism: a reflection on professional training at public universities in Bahia,” is an investigative process developed within the Master's Program in Social Work at the Federal University of Bahia. Its general objective was to understand the principle of pluralism in the socio-historical process of Social Work, identifying its contributions to academic and professional training. Its objectives were: a) to understand the historical construction of the Marxist tradition in academic and professional training; b) to present how pluralism is addressed in the 1996 Curriculum Guidelines and the
1993 Code of Ethics for Social Work; c) to analyze the principle of pluralism in the academic and professional training curriculum of Social Work based on an analytical reading of the programmatic content and bibliographies adopted in the undergraduate courses of public universities in Bahia. This research was conducted from a critical-dialectical perspective, using a bibliographic and documentary study of an exploratory nature, employing a descriptive method and a qualitative approach. The technique used will be content analysis, delimited by an integrative review. It was observed that the predominance of the Marxist
framework does not prevent the incorporation of pluralism; on the contrary, its effectiveness depends on alignment with the ethical, historical, and political values of Social Work and on academic openness to debate between different theoretical currents.
