Resumo:
This research analyzes the determinants of child labor in the rural areas of Northeast Brazil. For this purpose, data from the PNAD of 2002 and 2014 are used, verifying which factors contributed most to the reduction of this type of work in the period. The dependent variable is formed by individuals between 5 and 16 years old and modeled by Logit. We sought to identify which factors contributed most to the observed reduction in this type of work in the period. For this, we consider variables that are highlighted in the literature related to the child's personal attributes, attributes of the home and, finally, the geographical location. It was found that older boys who do not study are more likely to offer work, this propensity is inversely related to the head of the family's schooling and, in turn, has a direct relation with family size. The differences in probability between the years were due to different behaviors not observed related to age and schooling of the child.
