Resumo:
The following paper tried to identify in the sports section of journals a process of dissemination of
geopolitical knowledge. Starting from the perception that journalism is capable of promoting a unique
type of knowledge, this research sees the journalism text as a participant in literacy processes.
Especially, sports journalism would have the potential to contribute to a so-called “geopolitical
literacy”, a concept formulated with vast help from the fields of education and geography. Based on
that, this research analysed 63 texts published across four newspapers (Folha de S. Paulo, O Globo,
Público e Jornal de Angola), all covering the Morocco campaign in the 2022 World Cup, theme
chosen as a hook that would make the geopolitical literacy process possible. The texts were submitted
to content analysis, made possible by defining four dimensions of geopolitical literacy, that helped
identify and quantify characteristics of this kind of literacy in the chosen texts
