Resumo:
This study seeks to reflect on the debate surrounding social issues and racism, based on
Brazilian socio-historical formation and the contributions of black social workers in the
Brazilian Social Service. This is a qualitative, exploratory, bibliographic and documentary
study. The investigation was carried out based on the foundations of the Marxist method and
intersectionality, used as tools for the critical analysis of systems of exploitation and oppression
that interrelate and configure socio-racial inequalities in Brazil. Critical Discourse Analysis
(CDA) from the perspective of Teun A. Van Dijk was used as a data analysis method. The
documentary investigation is centered on reports produced by the Research Theme Groups
(GTP) "Work, Social Cuestiones and Social Services" and "Social Services, Exploitation
Relations/Gender Oppression, Feminisms, Race/Ethnicity and Sexualities". The ABEPSS
document "Subsidios para el Debate sobre la Cuestión Étnico-Racial en la Formación en
Trabajo Social"; the CV Lattes of black intellectuals who have been published on the topic; and
digital sources like the “Práxis Preta” podcast. The methodological approach adopted included
the following steps: a) a bibliographic review of secondary sources: books, collections and
academic articles, in physical and digital formats, accessed through platforms such as SciELO
and Google Scholar, prioritizing black intellectual thought in the understanding of Brazilian
social formation; b) a bibliographical survey of the production on social and racial questions in
postgraduate programs in Social Work, in the Catalog of Thesis and Dissertations of CAPES,
from 2010 to 2023; c) a bibliographic survey of 26 social work magazines classified as A1, A2,
A3, A4, B3 and S/A between 2010 and 2023, from which 14 articles were selected; d) a
documentary analysis to present the personal and academic trajectories of black intellectuals
dedicated to the study of social questions and racism. The results indicate that the discussion of
social questions and racism is present in the production of knowledge in social work. However,
this production remains invisible within the profession, which implies a lack of mediation for
an analysis of the concrete reality experienced by the working class and the determinants of
social concerns in Brazil.
