The text describes the uses of the sand band between the Garden of Allah (Jardim de Allah) and the Lighthouse of Itapuã (Farol de Itapuã) in the last years, in the city of Salvador, Bahia. We believe that it has a gap in the understanding of the beach as urban space, and of studies that act specifically on the sand strip. For in such a way, methods of the studies of Environmental Behavior had been adapted. It has been focused the people at the beach, defined for a tipology of his activities, in the form of groups of users. This users has been characterized by his systems of action and systems of objects, with your relations between itself and with the space. To complement the question of the uses in the beach, it searched influence of the activities in immediate neighborhood and, through a historical perspective of medium and long term, to detect the origin and found changes of the habits in the area. The result pointed a diversity of uses in the beach, many related between itself. The great variation of public along the day and the year is caused by planetary, atmospheric and working cycles, from the demand for leisure, health and image of health, attracting formal and informal commerce, and directed public servers. The intricate relation between the users, mainly between the swimmers and beach salesmen, and the importance of the aspects of the consumption, comfort and security in the current circumstances, has been analyzed. The impact of each activity in the beach have been verified, characterizing them in extension and constancy. Finally, from the uses and your impacts and and the conflicts between users, conjectures about the destination of the beach as a public space, the ways of mediation it man with the nature and implications of the continuous rewrite of the sand.
