Resumo:
The objective of this work was to reveal and analyze the sociocultural, political, and religious dynamics of the Irmandade do Rosário dos Pretos based on the memories, narratives, and experiences of its participants. Studies on the continuity of the actions of black brotherhoods in Brazil, in general, in the post-abolition period, are still scarce and rarefied, with little material focused on the period equivalent to the 20th century, especially those that bring epistemological contributions, based on their actions and political strategies. For this reason, we focused our work on the years 1996 to 2020, a milestone that differentiates the work in relation to most of the research produced. To develop the work, we opted for an ethnographic methodological perspective. In this way, in addition to being a participant observer situated in the work, I make field records, the identification and characterization of documentary and oral sources, building a network of interlocutors. Through the reports collected, we narrate how they think and live their experiences in the Brotherhood, confirming, distancing or bringing their memories and narratives closer to previous works and verified documents, producing and systematizing in five chapters reflections on this three-century-old religious organization, a space of belonging and construction of black identity.
