Resumo:
The Girardot marketplace is a project of the german architect Leopoldo Rother; it’s one of the most outstanding works of Modern colombian architecture. It is located in the central region of Colombia, on the banks of the Magdalena River. The building was recognized as a national heritage site of the Nation since 1993. This work consists of a proposal for the rehabilitation of this important work of our architecture.
Both the market and its urban environment have been deteriorating significantly in recent years, due to abandonment by the municipal administration. The loss of importance of the Magdalena River as a communication channel has been another factor that has led to the transformation of the dynamics of this area. This work make a approach to the heritage work, understanding it not as an isolated piece, but as part of a broader environment, which we also consider as heritage, that is, a heritage territory; to this sense, it is a approach that contemplates two scales: that of the territory, and that of the building. At the territorial scale, a General Plan is proposed, which formulates some guidelines on the foundational area of the city, and is positioned as an alternative view that confronts the Special Management and
Protection Plan (PEMP). At the building scale, a rehabilitation work is proposed, which seeks the restoration of the figurative unity, as well as improving the operating conditions of the market.
