Resumo:
Medieval pilgrimages consisted of routes that had been taken to sacred places, with the aim of venerating saints, as well as other religious practices related to medieval Christianity context. Among the pilgrimages that gained proiminence in the Middle Ages are those dedicated to Santiago de Compostela’s cult, which reached its peak in the 12th century. In this context, several documents were produced to reference and perpetuate the Santiagos’ memory, Liber Sancti Jacobi being one of them. This work was written with the aim of reporting narratives about Santiago, his achievements, miracles, his cult and other characters and institutions directly or indirectly linked to his history. The objective of this study is to analyze the discourses and representations of gender present in Liber Sancti Jacobi and to examine how the notions of man, masculine and masculinities are articulated in the source. We the hypothesize that this work produced a dynamic standard of the masculinities that served as a paradigm for the other masculinities present within it.
