Resumo:
The theme of this research is the role of the Assembly of God members in the construction and
support of Bolsonarism, from 2010 to 2016. Our objective was to analyze how they participated
in Bolsonarism during the period covered by this study. We used Karl Marx's understanding of
totality as our methodology, carrying out the work based on the categories of intellectual,
hegemony, civil society and common sense of Antonio Gramsci to guide our study. We also
used Marxist literature to analyze the phenomenon of Bolsonarism and the role that the
Assembly of God members played in its formation. We used sources produced by the Assembly
of God: the newspaper “Mensageiro da Paz”, “Escola Biblica Dominical” magazine,
“Confissão de Fe” and other documents produced by the denomination. In addition to minutes
of meetings of the National Congress, newspapers from the national press, blogs and websites
in which Assembly of God members were cited, wrote or news where this evangelical group
appears. From this, we can affirm that the Assembly members were fundamental to the
construction and support of Bolsonarism, as they fostered within their religious groups
principles, values and ideologies that would become more acute around Jair Messias Bolsonaro,
especially from 2015 onwards.
