Resumo:
Domestic violence against women is an extremely serious social phenomenon, which implies a
public health problem that occurs all over the world. Violence and grievances against women
are of all kinds, including the murder of women by their respective partners. In Brazil, domestic
violence can affect any woman, regardless of social class and skin color; However, not all
women are equally exposed, and public policies to combat domestic violence against women
do not benefit all women in the same way. Black and poor women are the most vulnerable, both
because of their exposure to domestic violence and because of the difficulties in accessing
specialized services when they decide to break the cycle of violence. This research seeks to
understand how the socio-spatial injustices existing in the residential areas in the Railway
Suburb of the city of Salvador interfere in the daily life and spatial itinerary of the women who
live there, when they decide to break the cycle of domestic violence and seek the services of
the “Network of Care for Women in Situations of Violence in Salvador”. The objective is to
identify and analyze the main obstacles (mobility and accessibility) experienced by women
from the Railway Suburb in their commute towards specialized services in the care against
domestic violence in the city of Salvador. To this end, semi-structured interviews were
conducted with women, of legal age, living in the Railway Suburb, with reports of domestic
violence. The narratives of each interviewee were analyzed, identifying the Critical Route built
to break the cycle of domestic violence, from decision-making, denunciation and the itinerary
taken to use the specialized services of the Network for Attention to Violence Against Women.
In addition to interviews were conducted with professionals and women from social movements
in the Railway Suburb, who work or have worked in the care of women in situations of domestic
violence, in order to identify, based on the experiences of professionals, as well as women from
social movements, what are the demands of difficulties presented by women to reach care in
the spaces, as well as their perceptions about the functioning of the Women’s Care Network in
Salvador.
