Resumo:
This dissertation deals with the historical theme of July 2nd, (2 de Julho), the brazil-ian war of independence in Bahia, from the perspective of graphic memory, a line of study in the field of Design. Therefore, it sought a bibliographic review in the fields of Design and History. The problem identified in this project is a lack of historical appreciation of the theme in the present day, which can be exposed in recent signs, such as the Airport and July 2nd Square. Parallel to the obliteration of consecrated symbols, we have a stagnation in the creation of new iconographies in contempo-rary languages, which dialogue with poetics more affable to the current public. The objective is to propose a design and artivism strategy that results in visibility of the characters and facts of the event, through urban art, valuing the places of memory of this history. The methodology used in the development of this research is of a quali-tative nature, as it seeks to interpret how the structure that defines which iconogra-phies will be highlighted over time occurs. The artistic practice in this research re-sulted in participation in exhibitions, publications and permanent recording of the work in public spaces. We believe that the lack of representations of this theme generates interest and recognition in what is produced.
