Resumo:
Violence against women is a social and public health problem that causes physical, psychological, sexual, and social harm. This study aimed to understand the experiences of women in situations of violence and to develop a guidance booklet for psychology professionals who meet this demand in the Person-Centered Psychological Service. A qualitative methodology and the individual case study method were used, in which two adult women participated in the study as clients. To obtain empirical material, each session was recorded, with the participant's permission, and then transcribed. In the processing and analysis of the empirical material, a Bardin Content Analysis and a clinical analysis of the cases were performed, based on the Person-Centered Approach. The results of the research are presented as two articles and a booklet as a Technical Technological Product. The first article highlighted four categories that enabled the following understandings: the experience of violence in childhood as constitutive of the woman's self; the woman's perception of the violence experienced and her relationship with the perpetrators of the violence; the repercussions of violence on women's self-concept, self-esteem and body-self; and the experience of motherhood for women in situations of violence. The second article presented three categories: 1. Violence experienced during abusive relationships and emotional reactions; 2. Escalation of violence during the break-up and reporting phase; and 3. The post-break-up period and the repercussions of violence in current life. At the end of the study, a booklet was prepared on the Psychological Hotline focused on demands related to violence against women with the objective of guiding interns, extension workers, residents and professionals in the area of Psychology who work from the perspective of the Person-Centered Approach, whose information supports psychological attitudes and interventions that consider the gender framework. It is emphasized that this research followed the principles of bioethics and began after submission and approval by the Ethics Committee for Research with Human Beings. The project is part of the Clinical Practices and Mental Health research line of the Postgraduate Program in Health Psychology of the Multidisciplinary Institute of Health of the Federal University of Bahia. It is expected that this study will benefit the women served and contribute to the scientific advancement of the humanistic approach to the issue of violence against women. It is concluded that the Person-Centered Approach helps in understanding the experiences of women in situations of violence and in psychological intervention in the face of these demands, through understanding the notions of self, environment and forms of symbolization of women.
