Resumo:
The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, emerged at the end of 2019, leading to millions of infections and deaths worldwide. Pregnant women were considered a vulnerable population to COVID-19 due to the immunological, respiratory, and cardiovascular adaptations of pregnancy, which increase their susceptibility to complications from viral infections. During this pandemic, there was a significant increase in hospitalizations of pregnant women, perinatal complications, and maternal mortality in Brazil, highlighting the need to improve maternal and child health protection policies within public health emergency preparedness and response efforts. This doctoral thesis examined adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
