Resumo:
This work investigates and demonstrates the importance of educational initiatives aimed at
valuing local cultural heritage, focusing on the community of Poças, Bahia, Brazil. Through
practical activities, such as the "Walking Class" and the "Heritage Tree Dynamic," conducted
with children and teachers, the aim was to explore and strengthen the relationships between
education and the preservation of cultural memory. The methodology involved the active
participation of students and teachers, promoting a holistic approach that integrates local
knowledge and personal perceptions, adhering to the principles of participant research. The
results show that teaching practices that incorporate aspects of memory and heritage enrich
student learning and strengthen the community's self-esteem by recognizing themselves as
agents of their own cultural narrative. Collaborative actions with the community proved to be
fundamental in promoting community engagement and initiatives for the preservation of local
heritage. This study highlights that new museology and social museology can play importants
roles in educational processes, fostering feelings and enabling the expression of identities
essential for building a future that respects and values local cultural roots.
