Resumo:
The dissertation aims to discuss the interplay between professional training in Social Work in
Bahia (1965–1975) and the Reconceptualization Movement. It is a documentary and bibliographic
research, qualitative in nature, exploratory in character, and guided by the critical, historical, and
dialectical method of analysis. The study seeks to recover the historical trajectory of Social Work
in Bahia from 1965 to 1975, aiming to understand its connections with the Reconceptualization
Movement. Furthermore, it proposes to discuss the historical, economic, social, and political
aspects of Bahia during the defined historical period, with the objective of understanding, even as
a preliminary approach, some of the configurations of the social question that shaped the socio
historical conditions that, in turn, enabled and demanded the establishment of professional training
in Social Work in Salvador. In addition to the readings and systematizations on the aforementioned
dimensions, the research sought to analyze the monographs produced by students of the only Social
Work program in Bahia during the 1960s and 1970s. This analysis highlights elements considered
central to characterizing professional training in the historical period under investigation, such as:
the conception of Social Work adopted; students' understanding of the reality of Brazil and Bahia
through community development experiences; the main theoretical references used and their
theoretical-methodological perspectives, among others. Based on this survey, it was possible to
preliminarily and tentatively articulate professional training in Bahia with the Reconceptualization
Movement discussed within the profession. Thus, the developed research sought to analyze
elements for the reconstruction and preservation of the history of Social Work in Bahia.
