Resumo:
Since 2000, the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) has been using the Academic System (SIAC) to manage administrative and academic activities, especially when it comes to recording student information. However, the increase in the volume and complexity of organic information has brought difficulties. So, in 2014, the University's management decided to implement the Integrated System for the Management of
Academic Activities (SIGAA). This qualitative-quantitative, descriptive and exploratory study was based on an integrative literature review, document analysis and a case study to evaluate SIGAA. The aim was to evaluate SIGAA as an information system capable of supporting the process of obtaining, storing, organizing and distributing student record information, with a specific focus on stricto sensu postgraduate studies, helping managers of UFBA's postgraduate programs to make decisions. Semistructured questionnaires were sent to 79 postgraduate programs, with 20 responses (26.31%), covering the five major areas of knowledge. The results show that SIGAA promotes efficiency in accessing and retrieving information, reducing operating time, giving programs greater autonomy and supporting more informed decisions. However, limitations were identified, such as the need for additional training for secretaries and
improvements in interoperability with other platforms used by the university. From the perspective of González de Gómez's Information Regimes theory, SIGAA goes beyond a technological system, consolidating itself as a central artifact in UFBA information regime. The research points to ways of continuously improving the SIGAA, contributing to academic management and highlighting its strategic role in the future transition for undergraduate courses. This data can also guide the university in identifying and
correcting difficulties, strengthening the integration of SIGAA throughout its administrative and academic structure.
