INTRODUCTION: The use of data has its various meanings and uses, through the advances and impact on the social process, with the transformation of society. With the large-scale production of data, open science is being promoted as a theoretical framework, boosted by this movement, which is made up of various types, promoting a revolution in services and products. Data Science has emerged as a field that enables studies and techniques for building skills and competencies for working with data. It is an opportunity that provides new interdisciplinary perspectives for library professionals. It is therefore an interest that is growing in demand in the market. Hence the need to study the subject of data in the light of the possibilities for professional librarians. OBJECTIVES: This thesis, therefore, aims to investigate how Library Science Course Coordinators are discussing the subject of Data Science and the inclusion of subjects aimed at training this professional with skills and competences in Data Science. METHOD: This is a descriptive-exploratory, applied and qualitative study using a critical-dialectical methodological approach. The main results show that, in the majority of cases, Library Science course coordinators have little understanding of the subject of Data Science. RESULTS: A questionnaire was used to obtain 25 responses, which were measured using Nvivo software, enabling a qualitative analysis, as well as coding of terms and word clouds. CONCLUSION: It can be concluded that discussions about the inclusion of disciplines on the subject of Data Science in the Library are still in their infancy and need to be expanded by the Library Science Course Coordinators in order to meet the demands of the market for a professional Data Librarian.
