Resumo:
A study was undertaken with the purpose of evaluate the osseous
maturation on the middle palatal suture region, after palatal rapid expansion, using the optic density, comparing the pre-expansion data with data found on
the retention phase. For that 109 radiographies of 37 patients on the pre- expansion stages and on the first three months of retention. Radiographies
were digitalized with a scanner, using the DentScan DentView program for
viewing. Three areas on the middle palatal suture were determined for
measuring, one on the anterior region and the two others on the posterior
region. Results showed that the medium values of the optic density right after
the expansion were smaller when compared to the values taken from the pre- expansion radiographies. From the first to the third months of retention, the
average values incresed with time. This fact had the same behavior on all the
three selected regions.
