Resumo:
The present work is constituted of an inquiry about the Paideia in the pedagogical activity of
the philosopher, it’s starting from a historical context and introducing the question of the human
formation. Paideia is a Greek term commonly translated as 'education', the human education as
such, that seeks to develop all capacity, which if it lasts for a lifetime in order to perfectly
fulfill the human ideal. The Greeks were concerned with the formation of the human person,
that is, with your improvement and refinement. Therefore, this education was aimed at the
improvement of areté (virtue). For thematize this question, three chapters were built that
embody this monography: “Education in Archaic Greece”; “The influence of orality in the
education offered by the sophists” and “The influence of orality in the education thought by the
philosopher”. The construction of these chapters leads to the discussion about “Know yourself”
and the classic statement by Socrates “A life without examination is unworthy”. Socratic
philosophy corresponds to this way of living by reflecting and dialoguing with others, that is, a
spiritual exercise, an active reflection whose purpose is to arrive with other men at an
intelligence, the supreme value of life, the perfection of the soul. It is a bibliographic and
historical-critical study.
