Resumo:
The use of economic instruments has been increasingly emphasized by multilateral
development agencies and public managers, responsible for environmental management. This
research aims to analyze the application and contributions of grants granted by the Amazon
Fund, as an economic instrument of environmental management from the perspective ofif its
induction and adherence to the goals of sustainable development. The research used qualitative
and quantitative methodologies, using the triangulation strategy. From the point of view of
objectives, the research is exploratory, keeping complementary aspects of descriptive research.
For data collection, the techniques of documental, documental - electronic research and
interviews were used.Data were analyzed fromof the Content Analysis technique, modality
"thematic analysis" and the coding and tabulation technique. The research results show
evidence that the application of the Amazon Fund instrument can become a promising and
important mechanism inducing sustainabilityand development of the Amazon region. Thus, the
grants awarded present direct and indirect contributions to the promotion of sustainable
development. The study shows that the application of this economic instrument is a factor that
enhances a more sustainable development model, and provides a relevant information base for
public managers in the formulation of environmental management policies.
