Resumo:
This study aims to present and analyze the ranking prepared by the CWTS developed by
University of Leiden (Netherlands), in order to understand the relevance and impact on the production of knowledge in the university context in the international and national scope. The Leiden Science and Technology Study Center Rankings, as well as other rankings, reflect and value the intellectual production and the evaluation of the quality of higher education institutions. The university, as a producer of knowledge and a participant in the construction of a society, is an institution that strengthens the work of researchers and, consequently, the dissemination of their productions. It is a descriptive work with quantitative observation and bibliographic analysis. The study showed that Brazilian universities have constantly evolved in terms of scientific production, but the universities in American countries remain at the top of the rankings. The challenges are still many, but it is necessary that access to higher education in Brazil is expanded, and, as a consequence, it is believed that there will be an increase in scientific production, new discoveries, advances and appreciation of science.
