Resumo:
Biomass is a renewable energy source with a relevant participation in the generation of electric energy in the world and with potential for expansion. Brazil already uses biomass for the production of bioelectricity and has significant potential to increase the use of different types of biomass for electricity generation, but it remains underutilized. The Brazilian Electricity Matrix needs expansion and diversification to ensure national energy security and, at the same time, maintain its renewable predominance, and bioelectricity can be a strategic option to achieve these goals. From 2013 to the present day, electricity generation in Bahia still comes mostly from the plants of Companhia Hidrelétrica do São Francisco (CHESF), but there is potential for the implementation of biomass thermoelectric plants. With this in mind, this article evaluates and projects electricity supply/demand scenarios for 2050 in Bahia and Brazil, focusing on the growth potential of concentrated bioelectricity generation in Bahia.
