Resumo:
Information Science (IS) is one of the fields of scientific knowledge that has significantly contributed to
the social development of subjects through theoretical and empirical studies. In this communication, research onmediation of information and mediation of reading stands out, which have been constituted as themes that enable an approximation between the theoretical foundation and the set of practices in social reality interventions in IS. In this sense, reflecting on research that addresses mediation as an interference action in the healthy aging process can contribute significantly to the social, cultural and psychological well-being of the subjects. In order to analyze the works on the mediation of information and reading related to the elderly, this bibliographic research sought the works published on the referred topics in the Database in Information Science (BRAPCI) and in Working Group 3 (GT3 ) of the National Research Meeting in Information Science (ENANCIB), between the years 2014 to 2019.
From this methodological outline, a total of eight (8) scientific communications were identified that relate the mediation theme and the elderly subject in these two information sources mentioned above. Results: the need to increase the number of research and communications that address the mediation of information and / or mediation of reading aimed at the elderly population is emphasized, considering that this public has gradually increased. Conclusion: that it is important to broaden the look to themes that involve the third age in the scope of Information Science and to expand the number of researches, especially on the themes addressed, bearing in mind that well being and social life are essential for the increase in life expectancy.
