Resumo:
The Prison Studies discipline is dedicated to an analysis that permeates the history of the emergence of prisons, the
people who compose it, the structures used, the criticisms and the alternatives that have been proposed by the
world in the face of the perception that prison policies have been ineffective in combating crime.
We need to pay critical attention to the formal and informal purposes of the prison system, its modus operandi and the population that is involved in the system, representing the prison body in Brazil, so that it is possible to understand the coordinates used by the holders of the ius puniendi, the power sanctioning, from the creation of prisons to the current situation.
