Patxohã, língua de guerreiro: um estudo sobre o processo de retomada da língua pataxó

Abstract

Nesta dissertação, faço um estudo etnográfico sobre o processo de retomada da língua pataxó, procurando compreender a sua dinâmica, tendo como foco a experiência dos mais velhos e o trabalho que vêm empreendendo os pesquisadores Pataxó para o estudo da língua, hoje nomeada patxohã. Para isso, levei em consideração as seguintes questões: quais as crenças do povo Pataxó sobre a sua língua? Quais os significados atribuídos à língua? Quem fala (va) a língua? Em que espaços a língua é/era falada? Além disso, reflito sobre as motivações para o uso e estudo do patxohã no presente, como iniciativa de construção de política linguística autônoma, de autoria Pataxó. Nessa perspectiva, recorro a registros da memória oral, coletados por mim, ao acervo já organizado pelo Grupo de Pesquisa Pataxó, além das fontes documentais existentes sobre a língua Pataxó a que tive acesso. Utilizo ainda referências teórico-metodológicas no campo da linguística e antropologia, a fim de discutir como o povo Pataxó pensa a sua língua em cada tempo e como a própria língua, sendo produto das intervenções humanas, foi se constituindo a partir dessas configurações sócio-históricas.

In this dissertation, I make an ethnographic study on the process of revival of the Pataxó language, seeking to understand its sociohistorical dynamics, focusing on the experience of older people and the work that has been undertaken by Pataxó researchers for the study of the language, today named patxohã. For this, I took into consideration the following questions: what are the beliefs of the Pataxó people about their language? What are the meanings attributed to the language? Who speaks (spoke) the language? In what spaces is (was) it spoken? In addition, I reflect on the motivations for the use and study of patxohã in the present, as an initiative of the construction of an autonomous linguistic policy, of Pataxó authorship. In this perspective, I invoke the records of oral memory, gathered by me, the collection already organized by the Pataxó Research Group, in addition to the existing documented sources about the Pataxó language which I had access to during fieldwork. I also use theoretical-methodological references in the field of linguistics and anthropology in order to discuss how the Pataxó people understand their language throughout time and, how the language itself, being product of human interventions, has been formed by these sociohistorical configurations.
