O Educandário do Sagrado Coração de Jesus: ideais e valores na formação da elite feminina baiana (1890-1936)

Abstract

Esta dissertação teve por objetivo analisar a cultura escolar do Educandário do Sagrado Coração de Jesus, anexo ao Recolhimento dos Perdões, durante a Primeira República, enfatizando o papel social da Igreja Católica na formação da elite feminina baiana. A pesquisa apoiou-se em documentos do Arquivo da Cúria Metropolitana de Salvador, do Arquivo Público do Estado da Bahia e da Biblioteca Nacional Digital Brasil, com o propósito de compreender a importância e expectativas que a sociedade da época depositava na mulher, a partir do estudo de uma instituição educacional católica. A proposta pedagógica do Educandário dos Perdões tinha por finalidade formar jovens cristãs e cultas, que atendessem aos papéis de esposa, mãe, e dona de casa, além de ensinar a atividade do magistério. A pesquisa apontou que algumas mulheres apropriaram-se da moral cristã disseminada no processo de formação escolar e conseguiram ocupar mais espaços no seu meio social, desenvolvendo atividades profissionais ou filantrópicas.This dissertation aimed to examine the scholar culture from the “Educandário do Sagrado Coração de Jesus”, annexed to “Recolhimento dos Perdões”, during the First Republic, emphasizing the social role of the Catholic Church in the formation of the elite women from Bahia. The research was based on documents from the Archives of the Metropolitan Curia of Salvador, the Public Archives of the State of Bahia and the Brazil's National Digital Library, in order to understand the importance and expectations that the society in this period of time deposited in the woman, from the study of a Catholic educational institution. The pedagogical proposal of the “Educandário dos Perdões” was intended to form christian and educated young people who met the roles of wife, mother, and homemaker, besides teaching the activity of mastership. The research showed that some women have appropriated the christian moral disseminated in the process of this school formation and managed to occupy more space in their social environment, developing professional and philanthropic activities.
