Abstract: The use of economic instruments has been increasingly emphasized by multilateral
development agencies and public managers, responsible for environmental management. This
research aims to analyze the application and contributions of grants granted by the Amazon
Fund, as an economic instrument of environmental management from the perspective ofif its
induction and adherence to the goals of sustainable development. The research used qualitative
and quantitative methodologies, using the triangulation strategy. From the point of view of
objectives, the research is exploratory, keeping complementary aspects of descriptive research.
For data collection, the techniques of documental, documental - electronic research and
interviews were used.Data were analyzed fromof the Content Analysis technique, modality
"thematic analysis" and the coding and tabulation technique. The research results show
evidence that the application of the Amazon Fund instrument can become a promising and
important mechanism inducing sustainabilityand development of the Amazon region. Thus, the
grants awarded present direct and indirect contributions to the promotion of sustainable
development. The study shows that the application of this economic instrument is a factor that
enhances a more sustainable development model, and provides a relevant information base for
public managers in the formulation of environmental management policies.

Abstract: The stepped chutes are important hydraulic structures used as stepped spillways,
drainage systems, for fish passage, among other uses. Knowing the characteristics of
possible flows in such structures is essential for design. In this work has been studied
numerically of the nappe flow without hydraulic jump in chutes with different slopes
were performed using the inhohomogeneous multiphase model and the k-ɛ turbulence
model, with the purpose of calculating the flow height and presenting methodologies
for pre-dimensioning. From the results obtained in the seven numerical simulations
carried out with s/l between 0,0594 e 0,80, where s is height and l is the length of the
steps, flow profiles and heights, and velocity fields along the stepped chutes were
analyzed. Flow depths along the stepped chutes decreasing from the critical level,
tending to the quasi-uniform flow regime. Based on this distribution, it was propose a
simplified model for the calculation of flow depths and dissipated energy along the
stepped chutes. A simplified non-dimensional formulation was also developed for the
calculation length and apron elevation of the stilling basin by hydraulic jump. The
comparisons made between the numerical solutions and the experimental data
indicated that there was adherence between the methodologies. Likewise, the
proposed formulations, when compared to the experimental data, showed adherence
with deviations less than 7% for most of the data referring to the dissipated energy.
Considering the methodology for the pre-dimensioning of stilling basin, the deviations
were even smaller.

Abstract: Globally, engineering education aims to prepare the following generation of engineers for successful practice. Preparing student engineers requires transferring knowledge on the development and application of new technologies and the transmission of concepts used to build the physical environments of their societies. Experimental learning in a traditional classroom or laboratory is a prime channel to engage students in hands-on activities to guide controlled observation of facts and analysis. COVID-19, the most significant pandemic of the 21st century, caused educational institutions worldwide to physically shut down in avoidance of mass gatherings of people who may host the virus and continue the spread. Many institutions were forced to rely on a remote-learning model and transition into a hybrid (remote and in-person) model as vaccines became available. Education systems were quickly transformed and, in many ways, underprepared for online education. The pandemic exposed the need to adapt experimental activities to accommodate the online or hybrid engineering learning environment. This case study presents a successful application of an experimental learning challenge, which required students to launch a theoretical investigation, collect data, and compare the theoretical and experimental results in a report reflecting the understanding of the proposed experiment. The study was conducted in a hybrid Statics course, a fundamental discipline of structural analysis within Civil Engineering, using an adaptation of Zeeman's catastrophe machine. A competition among the class was organized to motivate student engagement. The students were to present the solutions of the questions related to Zeeman's machine. The didactic intention of this activity, the original formulation used to obtain the physical and geometrical properties observed on Zeeman's machine, and the combinations of variables that lead to unstable situations are described in this study. Students' reception of the activity, including understanding of questions and results, is included in this study to demonstrate success in experimental learning during remote and hybrid teaching models.
