Abstract: This work addresses the challenge of volunteer allocation in crisis scenarios, such as
natural disasters, which demand agile, efficient, and adaptable management systems. To
tackle this problem, a task allocation engine was developed and integrated into Contask,
a prototype system designed for context-aware task distribution. The allocation engine
is based on Integer Linear Programming (ILP), combined with heuristics, with the goal
of optimizing the distribution of microtasks in an efficient and context-sensitive manner.
The proposal considers multiple criteria including availability, skills, location, and task
priority drawing inspiration from existing microtasking models. The choice of combining
ILP with heuristics was grounded in a systematic literature review, along with a comparative analysis and an evaluation of the model’s applicability to the proposed scenario.
This process revealed that alternative approaches present practical limitations related to
solution stability and computational cost, especially in emergency contexts where rapid
and robust responses are required. The requirements elicitation was conducted through
an exploratory study with 15 participants, including experienced volunteers and managers
of social initiatives, using questionnaires and thematic analysis to identify key challenges and expected functionalities. Based on these requirements, Contask was redesigned
with the implementation of the allocation engine, resulting in an updated prototype of
the solution. This prototype was initially evaluated through usability tests and a focus
group with six managers, including members of the Mãos que Ajudam project. Subsequently, controlled simulations representing critical situations were performed to further
assess system performance. The results indicate strong acceptance of the tool and a preference for automatic allocation, suggesting potential practical applicability and meaningful
contributions to intelligent volunteer management in emergency situations.

Abstract: With technological advances, children are having access to electronic devices at an increasingly earlier age, causing exposure to various risks to their physical and mental integrity. It is known that there are a number of useful tools and resources for parental control on the internet, but the information is not widely disseminated and is scattered.
Helping Parents is a support guide aimed at parents and guardians of children and adolescents, aiming to facilitate decision-making related to monitoring their children’s activities in the digital environment. The guide materializes in two artifacts: a website and an ebook. The objective is to gather information relevant to parental control, delivering informative and practical content so that parents have access, and from this, they can decide whether a certain control could be useful for the safety and education of their children. Based on the evaluation results, Helping Parents proved useful in helping parents protect their children online.

Abstract: Producing the course completion work is a very important stage of academic training, but it can become a major obstacle for the student and even make completing the course unfeasible. In the Information Systems and Computer Science courses at UFBA, a significant number of students spend a considerable amount of time producing the TCC, which results in failure, dropout and longer stay on the course. This work proposed a qualitative analysis that aims to identify factors that directly impact students' performance and motivation during the TCC. To this end, enrollment data was collected and analyzed, in addition to a focus group session and the use of a questionnaire.

Abstract: The Prize-Collecting Traveling Salesman Problem (PCTSP) is a variant of the
traditional Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP). In PCTSP, the salesman traverses a Hamiltonian cycle within a subset of vertices and collects a prize at each visited vertex. The
objective is to minimize the sum of the traveled distance and penalties associated with
unvisited vertices, subject to collecting a minimum amount of prizes. PCTSP belongs to
the NP-hard class and finds applications in both theoretical and practical scenarios, such
as the production of steel sheets and strips. In recent years, research has demonstrated
the potential of hybrid metaheuristics in finding high-quality solutions for NP-hard problems. Such techniques combine and exploit the best features of individual metaheuristics.
The aim of this research is to develop hybrid metaheuristics for PCTSP. The focus is on
hybridizing variations of local search with genetic algorithms and GRASP. Eight hybrid
algorithms were developed, considering four local search variations: 2-opt, VNS, VND,
and a combination of VNS-VND. The results obtained reveal significant insights into the
performance and characteristics of hybrid metaheuristics, with particular emphasis on the
memetic algorithm with VNS-VND, whose analysis suggests potential benefits in terms
of solution quality and execution time.
