Abstract: The dissertation presents an analysis of the institutional challenges and perspectives for the management of university cultural heritage at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), with the main objective of evaluating how the university's institutional policies contribute to the management of this heritage. To this end, the constitution and management processes were identified, institutional initiatives were mapped, and official documents and data collected from academic and administrative units were analyzed, to understand how UFBA treats its cultural heritage. The theoretical study highlights that the challenges related to the management of university cultural heritage go beyond UFBA, revealing the incipience of discussions on the definition and management of this type of heritage at both a national and international level, despite its breadth and diversity. This type of heritage encompasses both tangible assets, such as university museum collections, memory spaces and various objects, and intangible assets, which reflect the memory and institutional identity of these institutions. In the case of UFBA, the study identified at least 14 initiatives that highlight the university's cultural and historical plurality. Although there are occasional efforts to implement policies and guidelines aimed at managing university cultural heritage, the research found that these policies are lacking in the various instances. In addition, challenges such as a lack of adequate infrastructure, insufficient financial resources and a shortage of skilled labor were highlighted. Methodologically, the work used a qualitative approach based on bibliographical research, documentary analysis (including University Council minutes) and surveys carried out using structured forms. The approach focused on analyzing data relating to spaces such as museums, memorials and memory centers at the institution. However, this analysis also reflects the treatment given to university cultural heritage present in other academic and administrative units of the University, broadening the understanding of the management of this heritage in different institutional contexts. The dissertation is organized into four sections: a theoretical discussion on university cultural heritage and other theoretical discussions related to the topic; a historical analysis of the history of UFBA and its institutional initiatives; a description of the methodology used to collect and analyze the data; and finally, a reflection on the results obtained and proposals for the development of effective management policies. By contributing to the academic debate, the study seeks to spark new research and initiatives that value and promote the management of university cultural heritage, recognizing it as a strategic element in the construction of UFBA's institutional identity and serving as a reference for other similar institutions.; Esta disertación analiza los desafíos y perspectivas institucionales para la gestión del patrimonio cultural universitario en la Universidad Federal de Bahía (UFBA), con el objetivo principal de evaluar cómo las políticas institucionales de la universidad contribuyen a la gestión de este patrimonio.

Abstract: This dissertation is based on the principle that cultural heritage plays an essential role in building social connections and promoting historical knowledge. In this context, Social Museology redefines its role by integrating museological practices and social justice, seeking to transform cultural spaces into more inclusive and participatory environments. The work analyzed the connections between heritage preservation and accessibility actions in three cultural spaces in Cachoeira-BA: Cine Teatro Cachoeirano, Casa de Câmara e Cadeia and Museu Hansen. Based on the assumption that accessibility is an instrument of inclusion and participation, the study investigated how these spaces can become environments for equitable coexistence. The methodology combined qualitative approaches (semi-structured interviews with managers and people with disabilities) and quantitative approaches (multidimensional analysis of accessibility, based on Sassaki 2009), following the concomitant transformative strategy. Data triangulation revealed that, although there is robust legislation on accessibility, physical barriers (lack of ramps and tactile signage), communicational barriers (lack of audio description) and attitudinal barriers (lack of preparation of managers) persist. The historical analysis, supported by authors such as Teixeira (2017; 2022), Sarraf (2008; 2018), Alves (2018; 2020) and Moraes (2018), showed that the exclusion of people with disabilities in these spaces is a legacy of heritage policies that prioritize monumentality over social use, in addition to a limited and mistaken understanding of the concept of accessibility. The results highlighted that accessibility initiatives were only effective when articulated with local actors, but in a specific way. It is concluded that ensuring accessibility not only combats inequalities, but also redefines heritage as a collective good, transforming it into a support for plural memories and intercultural dialogue.

Abstract: The present master's research aims to map and analyze the online communication strategies planned and developed by the Museu Universitário de Arte (MUnA), a complementary unit of the Instituto de Artes (IARTE) at the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (UFU), during the period of remote operation and the museum's closure to the public due to the covid-19 pandemic in Brazil. Therefore, through a theoretical immersion in the field of museum communication, intersected with digital technologies, and an update on the history, configurations, and profiles of university museum centers in both national and international scenarios, we focused on exploring the context in which MUnA is inserted: the dimension of Brazilian university art museums. Our dissertation is an exploratory case study, using a quali-quantitative approach, and is characterized by a hybrid body of analysis methods, including literature review, questionnaire application, and document research combined with digital and folksonomic investigation methods. The historical scope of the study covers MUnA’s management from 2020 to 2022, extending from March 2020 to May 2022. Our data collection allowed for an updated quantitative overview of University Art Museum Centers in Brazil and a comprehensive listing of the publications issued by MUnA on its digital communication channel, the social media platform Instagram, over the 25 months of our study period. Based on this data collection, combined with the applied questionnaires and observation of communication approaches in analogous institutions, the research concludes that MUnA’s communication shift to an exclusively online dimension, within the scope of the public program #MUnAcomVocê, maintained key institutional aspects previously identified during its inperson operations, such as commitment and care to communication aspects, particularly the use of visual technologies.
