A INDETERMINAÇÃO DO SUJEITO EM TEXTOS BAIANOS DOS SÉCULOS XIX E XX: UM ESTUDO SOCIOFUNCIONALISTA

Abstract

A presente pesquisa investigou as principais estratégias para marcar a indeterminação do sujeito em textos escritos na Bahia (Cartas de Leitores, Cartas de Redatores e Peças Teatrais), nos séculos XIX e XX. Buscaram-se não só as formas consideradas canônicas pelas gramáticas normativas, tais como as formas verbais sem sujeito lexical expresso como o verbo na 3ª pessoa do plural (Ø+V3PP), o verbo na 3ª pessoa mais o pronome “se” (Ø+V+SE) ou ainda o verbo no infinitivo impessoal (Ø+VINF); mas também outras estratégias como o uso de “você”, “a gente”, “nós”, “eles”, voz passiva sem agente (VPSA), o verbo na terceira pessoa do singular sem sujeito lexicalmente expresso (Ø+V3PS) e sintagmas nominais como, por exemplo, “o sujeito”, “o indivíduo” e “um homem”. O trabalho foi desenvolvido à luz do Sociofuncionalismo, no qual se tem o enquadramento teórico-metodológico da Sociolinguística Variacionista e a compreensão dos usos linguísticos na perspectiva do Funcionalismo. Identificaram-se os contextos extralinguísticos (período de publicação das cartas/peças teatrais e o gênero textual), linguísticos (flexão do verbo, tipo de oração, transitividade verbal, preenchimento do sujeito, estrutura do núcleo do predicado, concordância com o argumento interno do verbo, posição do argumento interno do verbo, e a ausência versus presença de preposição antes do verbo no infinitivo mais o emprego do “se”) e funcionais (função da indeterminação e o grau de indeterminação). Os dados, após sua coleta, foram submetidos à quantificação através do programa estatístico-probabilístico GoldVarb X. Os resultados mostraram que os textos baianos, publicados entre nos séculos XIX e XX, registram maior uso da forma canônica Ø+V+SE e inovam ao considerar a estratégia pronominal “nós”, como a segunda mais usada. Além disso, analisar as variáveis funcionais que tratam da função e do grau de indeterminação é imprescindível para melhor compreender a indeterminação do sujeito nesse período

This research investigated the main strategies to mark the indetermination of the subject in written texts in Bahia - Brazil (Letters of Readers, Letters of Writers and Theatrical Texts), in the 19th and 20th centuries. We intended not only the forms considered canonical by normative grammars, such as verbal forms without lexical subject expressed as the verb in the 3rd person plural (Ø+V3PP), the verb in the 3rd person plus the pronoun se (Ø+V+SE) or the verb in the impersonal infinitive (Ø+VINF); but also other structures such as the use of você, a gente, nós, eles, passive without agent (VPSA), the 3rd person singular verb without subject lexically expressed (Ø+V3PS) and noun phrases such as o sujeito, indivíduo and um homem. This work was developed in the light of Sociofunctionalism, which has the theoretical-methodological framework of Variationist Sociolinguistics and the understanding of linguistic uses in the perspective of Functionalism. The extralinguistic contexts were identified (the period of publication of the letters/theatrical texts and the textual genre), as well as the linguistic contexts (inflection of the verb, type of sentence, verbal transitivity, subject filling, predicate nucleus structure, concordance with the internal argument of the verb, position of the internal argument of the verb, and absence versus presence of preposition before the verb in the infinitive plus the use of the se) and functional contexts (function of indetermination and degree of indetermination). Afher ther collection, the data were submitted to quantification through the statistical-probabilistic program GoldVarb X. The results showed that the Bahian texts, published between the 19th and 20th centuries, register greater use of the canonical form Ø+V+SE. In addition, they innovate to consider the pronominal strategy nós as the second most used. In addition, analyzing the functional variables that deal with the function and the degree of indetermination is essential to better understand the indetermination of the subject in this period.
